Teen Bedroom Style!

Isn’t it great to be a teen? The teenage years are a unique time of life. No longer a kid, but not yet an adult and just starting to explore exactly who you are and what you like. Teens have a unique sense of style as well. They like to express themselves in wide variety of ways, through music, clothing, and even the way they decorate their bedrooms. However, parents seem to shy away from totally redoing their teen’s room for two reasons. One is because they are afraid of the extremes that their teen may go with the project, and of course the other reason is cost.

Put both those worries out of your head! For one thing, isn’t going to extremes decorating a bedroom better than going to extremes in ways that might be more permanent? You can repaint the room in a few years so why not let them express their style? That being said, you are still the parent and you can set rules for the decorating project. Give your teen a defined budget and a list of what they cannot do to the room. Things like tearing out a wall or other permanent changes.

As far as expense goes, there are a lot of ways you can create a great teen bedroom without spending a big chunk of change. The first fix is paint. A couple of gallons of paint won’t cost much, but it will go a long way to making your teen’s bedroom a whole new place! You can stick with a standard one color look, or branch out and give each wall its own fabulous hue. Make the walls pop even more by adding visual art like mirrors, photo frames, or removable decals.

Making the Bed

Bedding is another inexpensive update that can make a huge difference in a room. It is amazing how much you can update a bedroom just by adding a new comforter or a few throw pillows. These days there is a huge selection of teen bedding sets that you can choose from. Just about every style, interest and hobby is represented in teen bedding. You can find anything from bold designs and bright colors to the latest sports stars and retro chic. You should have no trouble finding the perfect bedding to suit your teenager’s style!

In addition to the suggestions above, you can simply change a few accessories in the room to give it a more grown up and teen feel. Put a bright colored gooseneck lamp on the nightstand instead of a traditional lamp, or add a fuzzy rug on the floor by the bed. If your teen likes to doodle or hang pictures of friends, a bright colored, magnetic dry erase board on the wall can give them a great place to do that.

Simple and inexpensive touches can go a long way to making you teen’s bedroom a place they love to be. You can both be involved in the decorating process and create a space everyone is happy with.
